FIFA has no objection in players who support George Floyd

By db-admin

DBasia.news – The International Football Federation (FIFA) responded to the number of players celebrating goals for George Floyd. FIFA submitted their decisions to each organization, but must be with proper consideration.

George Floyd died after being treated violently by a United States police officer who pressed against his neck with his knee at the time of arrest. Americans are furious as the action is seen as evidence that racial issues are still not receding.

The death of George Floyd not only invited a response from the citizens of the United States, but also footballers. They celebrated to provide support to the investigation of the George Floyd case.

Two Borussia Dortmund players, Jadon Sancho and Achraf Hakimi, showed the message “Justice for George Floyd” in their shirt after scoring. Meanwhile, Borussia Monchengladbach striker, Marcus Thuram knelt down after scoring a goal in the match in protest.

The celebration received special attention from the German football federation. They are investigating whether the action has violated the rules.

“As is the case internationally, the match must be free of any political statement or message,” said German football’s top official, Rainer Koch.

FIFA as the highest mandate holder spoke up on the matter. According to FIFA, the federation must make decisions with common sense and provide concessions for humanitarian events.

“FIFA fully understands the depth of sentiments and worries expressed by many players given the tragic tragedy of George Floyd’s case,” FIFA said in a statement to the Associated Press.

“The application of the sanction was handed over to the competition organizers. It must consider common sense and be in line with the context surrounding the incident,” continued FIFA.

“FIFA has repeatedly stood firmly against racial and discrimination in any form and has recently strengthened the rules with the intention of helping to eradicate such behavior,” said the Zurich-based organization.

“FIFA has promoted many anti-racial campaigns and often carried that message in matches.”

Football players simply cannot celebrate freely in scoring goals. For example, Antonio Di Canio was sanctioned after celebrating in a NAZI’s salute.
