Final Copa del Rey 2019-2020 Season Held with spectators

By db-admin

DBasia.news – The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has confirmed that the 2019-20 Copa del Rey Final match will take place with spectators.

The two Basque clubs met for the first time in the Copa del Rey final between Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad. In the semifinals Bilbao eliminated Barcelona and Sociedad defeated Real Madrid.

The match was originally planned to take place before the 2019-20 season ended, but due to the corona virus pandemic all matches has been postponed in Europe and also in the world.

RFEF President, Luis Rubiales had a meeting with Jokin Aperribay (President of Sociedad) and Aitor Elizegi (President of Bilbao) Monday (05/04) local time. The result was that the three have agreed to play the match in front of spectators.

The match will still take place in La Cartuja, Seville, and will be held with audiences. The three of them have reached an agreement, but it was not determined when the final resumption date would take place, either in 2020 or 2021.

“Both clubs want to play the finals with the two club fans who have been present so far. We cannot think of anything better than playing the finals with our supporters in the stands,” wrote the statements of the two clubs.

Given the history carved into the Copa del Rey final between the two teams, both Bilbao and Sociedad have agreed to want the RFEF to keep playing the old tradition in the tournament in the final match.

Even so there is a risk that will be borne by the winner of the Copa del Rey later, which is to lose the direct rations for playing in the Europa League next season. This was due to a notification from the Highest European Football Federation (UEFA).

UEFA gave a deadline on August 3, 2020 as the final deadline of the Copa del Rey finals and other European tournaments. If it is held after that, the winner does not receive a share in playing for the European competition. The share will be given to the team in the seventh rank of the LaLiga (currently occupied by Valencia).
