Fired by Newcastle, Steve Bruce Warns His Potential Successor

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Managing Newcastle United may now be the dream of some of the world’s top managers. But a warning was delivered by Steve Bruce, who had just lost his position.

Bruce just fired Newcastle. Poor results at the start of the 2021-2022 season and the arrival of a new owner are believed to be the main culprits.

Bruce’s position has been shaken since the Public Investment Fund (PIF) officially owns the majority stake in Newcastle. The consortium led by Mohammed bin Salman intends to appoint a world-class manager to lead the revolution for The Magpies.

In the end, Bruce was still given the opportunity to handle Newcastle when he hosted Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League last weekend. The moment was very special because it was the 1,000th game in the former Manchester United player’s coaching career.

Unfortunately, Newcastle had to lose 2-3 from Tottenham. Even though the match was also the debut of the Tyneside club under the new owner.

No wonder the new owner of Newcastle finally fired Bruce. The club they just acquired is now slumped in the relegation zone.

A number of world-class managers began to be linked with Newcastle. But Bruce assesses his successor will face a very tough challenge.

Bruce did share stories related to his experience dealing with Newcastle. He and his family often get bad treatment from the fans of his own club.

“By the time I arrived at Newcastle I thought I could handle everything that was thrown at me. But it turned out to be very, very difficult,” Bruce told the Telegraph.

Bruce was appointed to manage Newcastle in the summer of 2019. He replaced the role of Rafael Benitez who resigned.

Two seasons of work, Bruce successfully brought Newcastle consistently survive in the middle board. Even though he was not equipped with sufficient funds to strengthen his squad.

However, Bruce’s performance seems to be underappreciated by Newcastle supporters. He often gets insults from them when he achieves minor results.

“I never felt really wanted. People (Newcastle fans) want me to fail and keep saying I’m useless, a waste of space, stupid, tactically incompetent cabbage head or whatever.”

“It happened from day one. When we did a good result, they judged his style of football as rubbish or I was just lucky.”

The bad treatment that Bruce received from Newcastle fans also disrupted his family’s mental state. Therefore he intends to retire from the world of coaching.

“I think this might be my last job. It’s impacting my whole family and I can’t ignore it,” Bruce said again.

Bad experience that is felt by Bruce is not impossible to be felt by the new manager who will be appointed by the new owner of Newcastle. Moreover, the pressure from supporters will be much greater because it now has abundant financial support from the crown prince of Saudi Arabia.

Antonio Conte’s name is one of the main candidates to be championed as Newcastle’s new manager. Other options worth considering are Paulo Fonseca, Lucien Favre, Eddie Howe to Steven Gerrard.
