Frank Lampard Highlights the VAR After Watford v Chelsea Match
By db-admin
DBasia.news – The use of VAR (Video Assistant Referee) in the Premier League has received the spotlight from Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard.
Chelsea almost failed to bring home three points in the match against Watford. Although being ahead 2-0, the Blues received a great onslaught before the game ended.
The Blues began to experience difficulty after the host received a penalty kick in the 80th minute. Gerard Deulofeu who advanced as the executor carried out his duties perfectly.
The penalty began when Jorginho was deemed violating Deulofeu in the forbidden box. In fact, seeing replays, there was only minimal contact between the two players. Apart from that, Deulofeu appeared like he was falling down.
“I have to be careful in giving comments. Last week, we saw changes in VAR. These changes can clearly cancel the penalty,” Lampard said as reported by Goal.
“I took part in a meeting with the middle managers last week and discussed a lot of VARs. The result of the agreement was that the manager, referee and Premier League decided that the penalty would not be canceled if the error was unclear. The task of the VAR was to look at everything that the referee could not see in the field.”
This is the first season VAR was used in the Premier League. In its application, the technology that is expected to help referees make the right decision, has actually received a lot of criticism.
“However, this time it did not happen, not even close to the truth. The longer the VAR took the decision, I was increasingly worrying. I was stunned by this decision after the meeting last week,” continued the former Manchester City player.
An additional three points made Chelsea ranked third in the standings with 23 points. The Blues are eight points behind Liverpool who are entrenched at the top.
