Frank Lampard Reveals Timo Werner’s Role in Recruiting Kai Havertz
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard revealed that Timo Werner played a role in the recruitment process of Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen some time ago.
Chelsea signed Havertz for five seasons. He was purchased from Leverkusen with 71 million pounds including bonuses.
Two months earlier, Chelsea hooked Werner from another Bundesliga club, RB Leipzig for a transfer fee of 47.5 million pounds.
Now, Lampard also admits that the success of his club in convicing Havertz to be willing to move closer to Stamford Bridge is more or less thanks to Werner’s help.
“I was able to talk to Kai after the recruitment process occurs, or whatever you call it,” said Lampard as quoted by Goal International.
“I often watched him as a player, and at that time Timo had just arrived at the club, Timo and Kai were closely related so I could ask Timo a lot about him, they are playing in the national team together. So we have a good background about him, “added Lampard.
“However, once again I was amazed in the conversation with him regarding his humility, and how personal he is, which I like. I love the humility in a player who just wants to develop and succeed. And I know he has extraordinary talent, I’ve seen him in the first week he’s here, “he mentioned.
Havertz already made his Chelsea debut in the match against Brighton last week. However, the 21-year-old player has drawn sharp criticism. Lampard also defended his team.
“I think it needs to be explained that before the game against Brighton, Kai practiced for four or five days and two or three days of that was training ahead of the game, so you can’t train hard,” continued Lampard.
“Kai’s fitness level is quite challenging. He will get better quickly. I have seen a lot of his talents and have no doubt the impact he will have as a Chelsea player.”
