Gavi wins Golden Boy 2022

DBasia.news – Gavi confirmed his status as the best young player at the moment. The Barcelona midfielder has just been selected to receive the 2022 Golden Boy award.

The Golden Boy Award is one of the highest symbols of supremacy for a young footballer aged 21 and under made by Tuttosport. A number of big names such as Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, to Lionel Messi have won this trophy.

For the 2022 edition, Gavi was chosen as the winner. He received the most votes from the European journalists who served as jury.

Gavi defeated other quality young players such as Jamal Musiala, Jude Bellingham, and Eduardo Camavinga. The first two names were also nominated last year before being defeated by Pedri.

“Thanks to everyone especially my family who have always been close to me. I would never have been able to win without them and without Barcelona,” Gavi said in his remarks.

Gavi is one of the young players whose career has accelerated in the past year. Though just turning 18, it did not block his path to becoming a major player for Barcelona and the Spanish national team.

Gavi has recorded 61 appearances for the Barcelona first team since making his debut last season. He also recorded 2 goals and  assists in that period.

Previously, Gavi also received another young player award titled the 2022 Kopa Trophy created by France Football. The award is at the level of the Ballon d’Or for a young player.
