DBasia.news – Napoli won the 2019-2020 Coppa Italia trophy when they managed to defeat Juventus 4-2 through the penalty shootout on Thursday (6/18). The manager, Gennaro Gattuso, said the success of himself and the club could not be separated by the help of the football God and his late brother.
June 2020 left a very deep impression for Gattuso. This month he experienced two unforgettable moments in his life.
On June 2nd, Gattuso had to lose his sister forever named Francesca. The 37-year-old woman died of severe illness she already had since February.
“Life and football have given me more than I deserve. But in life, you always think of parents and family first so what happenned is very difficult to accept,” Gattuso told Rai Sport.
His loss of his younger brother left Gattuso devastated. But this moment also became a kind of additional motivation for him to achieve success.
When making sure to qualify for the finals after holding draw Inter Milan, Gattuso dedicated it to his younger brother. He also dedicated this title to his younger brother.
Aside from his younger brother, Gattuso alluded to the role of the football God in the victory over Juventus. He considered the figure helped them win the penalty shootout.
But that does not mean Gattuso felt Napoli won lucky. Instead, he said Dries Mertens and his squad deserved to come out as champion as they performed better in the final match.
“I believe in the God of Football. When you do it right, you reap what you sow and it returns to you,” he added.
“This is why I am very angry when I see people losing their desires. I have no regrets during playing and want the players to feel the same.”
Even so, the Coppa Italia trophy hasn’t satisfied Gattuso. He asked his team to immediately forget about the euphoria and turn focus to Serie A.
Napoli are threatened to be absent on the Champions League next season because they are now ranked sixth in the Serie A standings. The Coppa Italia trophy will certainly feel bland if they fail to win a ticket to the European elite club competition.
“We have the responsibility to carry out the remaining 12 Serie A matches as good as possible. We must not be quickly satisfied and must give our best,” he concluded.
