DBasia.news – Elkan Baggott, an Indonesian national team player, helped his club Gillingham FC to beat Brentford, the Premier League representative, in the third round of the English League Cup or Carabao Cup 2022-2023 season.

Elkan Baggott featured in full in the match which Gillingham won on penalties.

At the beginning of the match Gillingham was actually missed by a quick goal from Brentford’s mainstay striker, Ivan Toney, in the second minute.

Left behind by one goal to make Gillingham try to come out to attack. However, the Brentford defense was strong enough to make it difficult for Gillingham’s players to open fire.

Gillingham’s efforts finally paid off in the 75th minute. The Gills, Gillingham’s nickname, equalized through Mikael Mandron after receiving feedback from Alex MacDonald.

The 1-1 score lasted until normal time ended so the match continued into extra time. In that half both teams failed to score an additional goal so the winner of this match had to be decided on a penalty shootout.

In the high-fives half, Gillingham’s six kickers managed to do their job well. They include Mikael Mandron, Hakeeb Adelakun, Will Wright, Cheye Alexander, Scott Kashket, and Alex MacDonald.

Meanwhile, of the six Brentford penalty takers, only five have succeeded. Brentford’s last kicker, Mikkel Damsgaard failed to do his job properly so his team had to lose 5-6 (1-1).

With this result, Gillingham has the right to qualify for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. In that round, Gillingham has the potential to meet representatives from the Premier League again because the selection of opponents is determined by drawing or lottery.
