Gillingham successfully qualified for round two of the FA Cup
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Gillingham FC struggled to a narrow 1-0 win over Nation League club AFC Flyde in their FA Cup first round replay at Priestfiel Stadium.
Manager Neil Harris continues to trust Elkan Baggott to appear as a starter in this match. The Indonesian national team player played until the match ended.
Playing at home, Gillingham started the game well. The hosts had a golden opportunity when the match was ten minutes in. Unfortunately, Scott Kashket’s penalty went sideways on the right side of the goal.
Gillingham’s efforts to open a new advantage happened three minutes before the end of the first half. Lewis Walker successfully passed defender Flyde, and then beat goalkeeper Chris Neal.
Flyde played better in the second half, and forced Gillingham’s rearguard to work hard. As a result, Baggott had to commit a serious foul which resulted in a yellow card in the 48th minute. It was Baggott’s fourth yellow card of the season.
Despite exerting great pressure, Flyde failed to score against Gillingham, so the match ended with a score of 1-0.
Gillingham advanced to the second round with a 2-1 aggregate win over Fylde. At the first meeting at home to the opponent, Gillingham drew 1-1. The success of winning in this match more or less erased the disappointment after losing 2-0 to Northampton Town in League Two.
Although still slumping in the league, Gillingham had good results in the cup. They are still in the League Cup after eliminating Brentford on penalties with a score of 6-5.
Gillingham will next face fifth tier side Dagenham & Redbridge on November 26. Prior to dealing with the Nation League club, Gillingham first had two League Two away matches against Newport County and Crawley Town.
