Olivier Giroud

DBasia.news – Since January 2018, two strikers are competing to get the place in Chelsea’s attacking line. They are Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata.

Giroud came from Arsenal on January 2018 or the winter transfer market, meanwhile, Morata was recruited by Real Madrid in summer 2017.

This season, they competed to ensure Maurizio Sarri. So far, Morata is leading after scoring three goals when Giroud made no goal.

There is another contributing factor besides the different playing style and Sarri would send both of them depending on the necessity of the opponent, Giroud also late joining the squad because he played for France national team in the 2018 World Cup and successfully won it.

Giroud, 32, isn’t the main choice for Sarri in the attacking line of Chelsea. However, he won’t mind competing with Morata in achieving that.

Alvaro Morata

“Last season I was already competing with Alvaro. I played a lot of matches. This year, it was truncated by the fact that I arrived late. Football is an eternal start and even if you have some credit, you have to move with the times,” Giroud said.

“That’s what I did and I’m not worried. Chelsea need two attackers to fulfil their goals this season. What Sarri asks of me? A good understanding with his attacking players combined with tactical nous,” he emphasized.

Owning two strikers with different style is a privilege for Sarri. If he needs a striker that could defend the ball well and great in air duel or physical fight, Giroud is the answer. If he needs the striker that always find the way to attack, Morata is perfect.
