Giroud Opens Up about the Issue of His Split with Benzema
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has opened his voice about rumors of a broken relationship with Karim Benzema. Giroud made sure he always respected Benzema.
After being dropped from the French national team in 2015 due to the Mathieu Valbuena sex video scandal, Karim Benzema has a big chance of making a comeback. Reportedly, the Real Madrid striker is included in the list of 26 players Didier Deschamps will bring to the 2020 European Cup.
During his absence from defending the French national team, Benzema once expressed sharp criticism towards Olivier Giroud who filled his place. Benzema analogizes himself as F1, while Giroud is a go-kart.
“As for Giroud, I’m just telling the truth. We don’t remember what I said about him, especially regarding what he gave to the French national team,” said Benzema.
“We just remember when I said that I was F1 and he was a go-kart. That’s what I thought, that’s the truth, and that’s how it is.”
Now, if Benzema returns to strengthen France, he has the opportunity to have a duet with Giroud on the front lines. The question that arises is whether the fire of strife will grow?
Giroud’s response
Giroud, who had been holding back, tried to clear up the situation. He made sure he didn’t have any problems with his compatriot.
“At that time, when I was criticized unfairly for Benzema’s absence, it hurt. I continued to prove that I deserved a place and competition with Benzema was created by some people,” explained Giroud to RMC Sport.
“I have nothing to do with it. We are just in the same position,” continued the striker.
“I’ve never clashed with him. History wants us to be against each other. I’ve always had a good understanding of him and respect each other. At least my attitude towards him.”
“I thought everything was going a bit messy. Now, it’s time for us to move on,” said Olivier Giroud.
The French national team is one of the strong candidates to win the 2020 European Cup. On the front lines, apart from Benzema and Giroud, Les Bleus also has Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe.
