Graham Potter made way for Kepa Arrizabalaga to replace Edouard Mendy

DBasia.news – One of the big choices Graham Potter had to face in his new job is choosing Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper. Mendy’s injury made life easy at the start of his career with the Blues, but the time has come for the former Brighton manager to have to make a tough choice between the two goalkeepers at his disposal.

When asked about Chelsea’s goalkeeper options, Potter said: “If you look at what we’ve got over the next six weeks, it’s an incredible schedule. So I’m in no rush to label one or two people.

“First, I want to help Kepa enjoy his football and play at a very good level, which I think he did against Crystal Palace.”

“Then I want to help Eddie get fit and ready to play, which he has done very well so far. Then I would have two goalkeepers and both are ideal, only the football factor will decide. We have two goalkeepers we trust a lot and it’s a good situation for us.”

After ousting Kepa as number one at Stamford Bridge, Mendy’s position as first-choice goalkeeper has been questioned by supporters in recent weeks and months. Although he was unable to keep a clean sheet in two games, the Spaniard played his part well against Red Bull Salzburg and Crystal Palace.

Potter claims that Mendy has been involved in training sessions for the past few days. The trip to Milan may come too soon for him, but he is likely to be back in contention with Kepa for the main spot against Wolverhampton on Saturday (8/10).
