Grass issues in San Siro Stadium
By db-admin
DBasia.news – The San Siro Stadium is reportedly having problems. This can not be separated from the high intensity of use in recent times.
The matches played by AC Milan and Inter Milan at the San Siro in the Serie A, Coppa Italia and Italian Super Cup finals began to take their toll. Not the players, but the grass at San Siro that appears to be damaged on some sides.
This situation has been predicted since the use of the San Siro in the UEFA Nations League event in October last year.
“Aesthetically, it’s not the best. However, we still respect UEFA’s parameters in preventing accidents and the level of performance,” said Lega agronomist Giovanni Castelli, as reported by Gazzettta dello Sport.
It is suspected that poor soil quality also affects the quality of the grass. However, this was denied by Castelli.
“It’s an urban legend. The lawn is detached from everything below, 40 centimeters below. It’s a closed suspended system. For almost 8 years we have been choosing synthetic hybrids mixed with natural grass.”
“However, playing in less than 24 hours makes any pitch suffer. As long as two teams are playing at the same stadium, the problem will repeat itself.”
Now, the Castelli team will be working hard to keep the San Siro in tip-top shape for the Derby della Madonnia early next month.
“We have two weeks from the match between Milan Vs Juventus until the derby to change the pitch and sew it up. We’ve worked to regrow grass in the worst areas, especially in midfield. However, it’s only been new grass in a few days.” He stated.
“The only solution is rest. You play too much and the grass fails to recover despite maintenance.”
“We will do what we can, using the best technology lamps, photosynthetic lamps, forced drainage and constant heating of the soil at 16 degrees Celsius.”
