Greater Manchester Police began an investigation into the riots at Old Trafford

DBasia.news – The riot of Manchester United supporters at Old Trafford has been an on going issue. Now, Greater Manchester police are investigating and hunting down the perpetrators.

Initially, a number of Manchester United supporters protested to the Glazzers just hours before the start of football against Liverpool. However, the action turned into a riot. A number of supporters entered the stadium and did damage.

As a result of the incident, the Greater Manchester police conducted an investigation. Moreover, there were policemen who were injured. So far, one supporter has been arrested.

“So far, six police officers have been reported injured with one officer receiving a fractured eye socket. He is in need of treatment. Meanwhile, another policeman sustained an internal wound after bottles and cans were thrown into the crowd,” Greater Manchester police said in a statement.

“A third officer was dragged away and kicked. The officer who came to the hospital has been discharged.”

“As the heated situation escalated, police were added from neighboring forces to assist police in Greater Manchester.”

“A 28 year old man was arrested as a result of this investigation. All available evidence will be reviewed to identify the protesters and those responsible for attacks on officers.”

Police are Trying to be Persuasive

Assistant chief of police for Greater Manchester, Nick Bailey, felt that what the supporters were doing had gone too far. Officers who tried to reduce the riot became victims.

“The actions carried out by these protests were terrible. The officers were only trying to carry out their duties and facilitate the peaceful protests. However, some of those present became hostile and aggressive towards the officers because they forced their way into the field. This action confirmed that the protests were not peaceful.”

“The police tried to get involved with the protesters, but faced violence and aggression that resulted in legal action. Enforcement is always a last resort, but in these circumstances, it was deemed necessary,” Bailey concluded.
