Guardiola Asks Manchester City Players Not to Be Happy
By db-admin
DBasia.news – RManchester City are now the sole racehorse in the 2021-2022 Premier League title race. Even so, Pep Guardiola as a manager is reluctant to let his guard down.
Manchester City further strengthened its position at the top of the standings after winning 1-0 at Brentford headquarters, Thursday (30/12). The only goal for the visitors’ victory was scored by Phil Foden in the 16th minute.
Manchester City are now eight points clear of Chelsea who are in second place. The victory over Brentford also became the Citizens’ tenth in a row in the Premier League this season.
With this condition, it seems only a miracle that can thwart Manchester City won the title. Moreover, their rivals appear inconsistent.
Guardiola is aware of these expectations. However, he warned his team not to be complacent before actually winning the title.
“There are still 54 points up for grabs although I don’t imagine it’s up to eight and nine points at the moment. But nobody won in December,” Guardiola told the BBC.
“I can’t say more than congratulations to the team, but we have to focus.”
Not without reason Guardiola thinks like that. Manchester City will face a series of busy schedules next month.
“In my mind there is Arsenal, Chelsea, Southampton to come. We have a game in London against Arsenal, maybe one of the top teams at the moment,” he added.
“The important thing is that we stay stable and get results and play well.”
The fate of the title race is now in the hands of Manchester City. The rivals certainly hope they slip so that the competition is open again.
