Haaland and Mbappe’s actions became a concern in the last 16 of the 2020-2021 Champions League
DBasia.news – The first leg of the first 16 of the 2020-2021 Champions League was marked by heavy goals. Two young players have been in the spotlight through their actions and goals, namely Erling Braut Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.
Haaland (20 years) helped Borussia Dortmund win 3-2 at Sevilla headquarters, Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, through two goals and one goal from Mahmoud Dahoud, which Suso and Luuk de Jong’s goals were minimized.
Meanwhile, Mbappe (22 years) is even more fantastic. The 2018 World Cup winner with the French national team scored a hat-trick when PSG (Paris Saint-Germain) won 4-1 over Barcelona at Camp Nou, another goal was scored by Moise Kean.
Former Italian coach Fabio Capello sees them both as leaders of a new era of football, competing for the Ballon d’Or to replace the two best players in the last decade, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
“They (Haaland and Mbappe) are young and still have a lot to develop, they have a fantastic future, they will be the ones who fight for the Ballon d’Or,” Capello said as quoted by Football-Italy
“In terms of pure quality, Neymar is superior, but Haaland’s strength and speed are devastating.”
“Halland, compared to Mbappe, knows how to get out of his way, he knows how to go deeper and ask for one or two (passes).”
“In this aspect, he has something more, but Mbappe is technically stronger. Halland always makes the right moves to attack the target,” he explained.
AC Milan legend Alessandro Costacurta also predicts a bright future for the two. Their rivalry will still be as exciting as the rivalry between Ronaldo and Messi.
“In the Champions League, Haaland has scored 18 goals in 13 games and 43 goals in 40 games for Dortmund,” added Costacurta. “Last night Mbappe, today Haaland. I think we’ll have fun 10-15 years from now.”
“Today, he (Haaland) faced one of the best young defenders in Europe, (Jules) Kounde. He went through and it was scary. If he removes the best prospects (then anything can happen in the future),” he explained.
Haaland and Mbappe are both deadly and fast in their movements, their goal instincts are the same. Since January 2020 his second club record in all competitions is: Mbappe 44 games, 50 goals, 13 assists, Haaland 42 games, 41 goals, eight assists.
