Hakimi denies issue of Zidane becoming the reason for him leaving Real Madrid

DBasia.news – Paris Saint-Germain full-back Achraf Hakimi has denied that Zinedine Zidane was behind his departure from Real Madrid. Hakimi explained that there were several other considerations that made him leave.

Achraf Hakimi is expected to break into the Real Madrid first team after returning from a loan spell at Borussia Dortmund in the 2020-2021 season. Hakimi has impressed during his two years at Dortmund.

However, the Morocco international player chose to leave for Inter Milan. Reportedly, Hakimi does not want to be under the tutelage of Zinedine Zidane, who did not provide the opportunity to perform as expected.

However, now Hakimi denied the news. According to him, what happened was not caused by Zidane.

“The first call with Zidane happened when I was with friends, sitting outside the house. At that moment, the phone rang and it was Zidane,” Hakimi said in an interview with L’Equipe.

“He just told me I was going to play. I didn’t expect it to stay like that. What happened in 2020 has nothing to do with him.”

“There are other aspects that are especially related to Covid-19. Besides that, it was Real Madrid that made me leave,” stated Hakimi.

“At that time, I had a conversation with him. However, it will remain between us. He thinks differently about my departure,” explained Hakmi.

Achraf Hakimi played an important role behind Inter Milan’s Scudetto last season. He appeared in 37 matches with a score of seven goals. Then, Hakimi headed to PSG after the Nerazzurri accepted an offer of 60 million euros.
