DBasia.news – Manchester United finally scored again from a set piece situation when they traveled to Leeds United headquarters in the 2021-2022 Premier League continued. Harry Maguire became the poor record breaker.
In a match that took place at Elland Road, Sunday (20/2), Manchester United successfully defeated Leeds with a score of 4-2. The duel titled Derby of Roses, was fierce and interesting in the midst of bad weather.
Manchester United took the lead through Maguire’s header in the 34th minute. The captain won the aerial duel to meet a pass from Jadon Sancho’s corner.
It was Manchester United’s first goal in his last 140 corners. The record was certainly not something MU should be proud of.
Making the most of deadball situations is one way to score goals and win. Big teams have known that for some time.
Manchester United themselve possess a series of players who are quite tough in the air. No wonder Maguire was relieved to be able to end these poor statistics.
“I’m ashamed of the stats (140 corners without a goal). I’m a big part of the set-piece routine but as a team we haven’t been good enough,” Maguire told Sky Sports.
“If we had scored more from set-pieces we would have been higher up in the table.”
Not only ending a poor record, Maguire’s goal also added to Manchester United’s confidence. Bruno Fernandes then doubled the visitors’ advantage in first-half injury time.
Manchester United also did not panic when Leeds was able to equalize quickly at the start of the second half. The actions of Fred and Anthony Elanga who served as supersub ensured the victory of the Red Devils.
