Harry Maguire is not a bad defender

According to the Juventus legend, Maguire is not bad, he is good enough to defend Man United and admits he is concerned about the situation he faces. Chiellini assesses the situation facing Maguire is also not ideal for the England national team.

“I am saddened by Maguire’s situation because he is a good player. They (Manchester United) need too much from him. Just because they paid £80 million for him, he has to be the best in the world every game? That is not true,” Chiellini told reporters.

“The market value depends on many aspects that you can’t control. It’s not your fault. He and (John) Stones are a good duo. Okay, Maguire may not be Rio Ferdinand but he’s pretty good.”

“With this situation it doesn’t help (England) to do well. If you want to win the World Cup it is impossible to do it with some problems with key players, and for sure Maguire is one of the key players of the team.”

Chiellini (38 years old) is now turning a new page towards the end of his career at Los Angeles FC with Gareth Bale. He retired with 117 caps with the Italian national team and scored eight goals, in 2021 Chiellini helped Italy beat England in the final and win the 2020 European Cup. Chiellini is also curious about England’s prospects ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

“I’m curious because many times England arrived at the end of the season crushed from all the games but now it’s different, now they are fresh. The group is young but growing a lot. But England players are really pressured by all the media and fans so it’s not easy”, added Chiellini.
