Harry Maguire Reveals Factors That Caused Manchester United’s Defeat in the Manchester Derby
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Manchester United captain, Harry Maguire, could not hide his disappointment after losing 4-1 to Manchester City in the 2021-2022 Premier League match, at the Etihad Stadium, Sunday (6/3). According to him, Man United lost the ball too easily.
Manchester United closed the first half with a 2-1 defeat. The Red Devils conceded a pair of goals through Kevin De Bruyne (5′, 28′). Meanwhile, a reply came from Jadon Sancho in the 22nd minute.
In the second half, Man United looked to be starting to struggle to match Manchester City’s game. The Red Devils conceded two goals through Riyad Mahrez’s brace (68′, 90+1′).
Although Man United conceded four goals, Maguire did not see the defense sector as a major problem. For him, the appearance of the Red Devils slumped in the second half.
“This is a disappointing result for the player, the club and the supporters. It is disappointing for all involved,” Maguire told Man United’s official website.
“We came into the game determined to give everything. We worked tirelessly in the preparation and are really looking forward to this match. We have great confidence that we can get the result we hoped for.”
“So, first and foremost, it’s very disappointing that we came here and didn’t get the result we hoped for,” said the captain.
Statistics record, Man United failed to release a single shot in the second half of the Premier League for the second time in the last six seasons. Before against Man City, the Red Devils carved out that poor statistic in 2017 against Liverpool.
“We didn’t do the things we did in the first half. For me, the most important thing is that when we have the ball, we lose too easily. We weren’t good enough with the passes.”
“When we had chances to hurt them, we weren’t sharp enough. We weren’t good enough in passing and transitions, especially in the second half.”
“We lost the ball too easily, knowing that they like to control the game with possession. They did it in the second half,” said Harry Maguire.
The defeat made Manchester United knocked out of the top four. Currently, Ralf Rangnick’s men are entrenched in fifth position with 47 points from 28 matches. Next, Man United will challenge Tottenham Hotspur (13/3).
