DBasia.news – Thierry Henry is officially returning to AS Monaco. Not as a player, but Henry becomes the head coach for the first place he started his career. Henry was contracted by Les Monegasque until June 2021 to replace Leonardo Jardim.
Returning to his initial club, the former Arsenal captain couldn’t hide his excitement.
“Having started my footballing career with this great club, it seems fate that I will now begin my managerial career here too. Monaco will always be close to my heart. I’m incredibly excited to be given this opportunity, but now the hard work must begin,” Henry said.
As a matter of fact, the Arsenal top-scorer of all time has started his professional career in 1994 with Arsene Wenger in Monaco. After that, he moved to Juventus in 1999. Just a year in Italy, the former New York Red Bull player followed Wenger to Arsenal and became the respected legend there. His statue even stood at Emirates Stadium.
Monaco are having a poor record this season. Of all the match this season, they just won once. With six points in total, Monaco are on the edge of Ligue 1 degradation.
The debut match of Henry will be started on October 20, 2018, in the Ligue 1 match against Strasbourg. After that, they will play against Club Brugge 4 in the Champions League match four days later.
