High expectations at Manchester United

By db-admin

DBasia.news – The 2022-2023 season was a turning point in Marcus Rashford’s career in Erik ten Hag’s era. He has scored five goals in eight games in all competitions and provided three assists.

His goals also came in important moments such as when he scored one goal against Liverpool, two goals against Arsenal, and most recently scored against Omonia Nicosia (Cyprus club) in the Europa League.

But his great performance was instantly lost and simply forgotten in the Manchester Derby. Manchester City showed a significant level of play from their city rivals like earth and sky with a 6-3 win. Rashford was also criticized.

“It’s shocking. Shrugging his shoulders when things don’t go his way. You roll up your sleeves at Manchester United,” said former Man United captain, Roy Keane of Rashford.

Responding to the criticism, Rashford stressed that pressure and expectations were always high with Man United. He also emphasized that none of the Red Devils players were happy when the team lost, even if it was a draw.

“There are times where I’m disappointed but that’s normal, right? We are all players who want to win, that’s the reason we play for Man United. We have high expectations of ourselves and each other. Ask one of us and we wont be happy to lose or even draw,” said Rashford as quoted by the Mirror.

“I’ve played a lot of games and experienced a lot of different things. At Man United, we hope to win most of the games.”

Rashford also stressed that Man United would immediately respond to the humiliating defeat to city rivals, adding that his team was still developing under Erik ten Hag.

“I think we are definitely improving although there are obviously things we need to tighten up and improve. The last league game at City was not good enough by anyone’s standards and we feel we let a lot of people down. It was a bit of a shame after the game,” added Rashford.

“But as you know, this result can happen in football and the only way to come back from it is to come back and win the next game like we did against Omonia Nicosia.”

“The manager has a clear identity and way of playing which I think makes it easier to adapt to him. Even in pre-season I felt that he got his message across quickly and directly and the players took that message.”

“We will continue to develop under him. This is still early and the more we know him, the better we are and the more he also knows us,” explained the Manchester United academy player.
