Higuain’s Unfortunate History

Gonzalo Higuain

DBasia.news –  Gonzalo Higuain’s arrival in Chelsea raised the expectation for The Blues fans. But, they must be patient while reflecting the historical background of Chelsea’s No. 9 player.

History isn’t fortunate for the No. 9 player in Chelsea. At least during the past two decades, the performance of the players in that jersey were disappointing.

It still lingers in Chelsea fans how two Spaniard strikers Fernando Torres and Alvaro Morata became the scapegoat of the club’s lack of productivity in terms of goalscoring.

Indeed, Torres achieved the Champions League trophy with The Blues. But his goalscoring achievement is declining drastically compared to his career in Liverpool and Atletico Madrid. With 172 caps, the No. 9 player just collected 45 goals. It’s half of his achievement with Liverpool with fewer caps.

The same thing happened to Morata. Intending to improve his performance after eliminated in Madrid, he became the weak player in West London. Collecting 72 caps so far, the striker could only create 24 goals. This is why the management decided to sign Higuain this winter.

Far before the two strikers from Atletico Madrid academy, the No. 9 player of Stamford Bridge are also the players who failed to give their best performance, like Mateja Kezman, Hernan Crespo, Khalid Boulahrouz, Radamel Falcao, Franco Di Santo, and Steve Sidwell.

Signed with a high transfer fee, their careers in Chelsea were declining.
