If not registered by Barcelona, Andreas Christensen can leave

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Barcelona new signings Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie could leave Barcelona for free if the club are unable to register them before their La Liga opener of the season against Rayo Vallecano.

Christensen and Kessie both joined Barca on free transfers earlier this summer from Chelsea and AC Milan.

However, the financial crisis experienced by the Blaugrana meant that the Spanish giants could not register the two new players in time, thus threatening their future at Camp Nou.

ESPN reports there is a chance for Christensen and Kessie to leave Barca without playing a single official match if club management cannot register the two for La Liga before the match against Rayo.

There is a clause in the Danish and Ivory Coast player’s contract with Barca, which allows them to leave the club at no cost if their rights are not met.

The other summer signings, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kunde also have not been registered in La Liga. While older players such as Sergi Roberto and Ousmane Dembele who recently extended contracts have also not been registered.

Christensen and Kessie’s situation is a bit different, considering they joined Barca for free. Therefore, if they so choose, they are entitled to leave for free before the transfer window closes.

Barcelona need another “economy lever” to register players

Barca have spent more than 150 million euros this summer and have raised over 600 million euros by selling 25% of their domestic television rights over 25 years and a 24.5% stake in Barca Studios.

However, this amount is still not enough for Barca to be able to meet the salary limit and register new players. They need to pull another “economy lever” or let go of some high-income players.

Therefore, Barca want to sell the remaining 24.5% stake in Barca Studios and continue to negotiate further pay cuts to the old players, including the senior duo, Sergio Busquets and Gerard Pique.

Barca’s main focus at this time is to “mortgage” the club’s remaining assets, in order to get additional funds to register their new players before the new La Liga season begins.
