DBasia.news – Barcelona reportedly offered Philippe Coutinho to Arsenal and Newcastle United in order to obtain funds to bring in Inter Milan striker, Lautaro Martinez.
Reported by Goal on Tuesday (7/14), the Brazilian national team midfielder is no longer included in the long-term plans at Camp Nou, even though he is Barcelona’s most expensive purchase of all time.
La Blaugrana poured a fantastic amount of funds to recruit Coutinho from Liverpool in the 2018 winter transfer, but the player’s performance was not worth the high value.
The 28-year-old player struggled to find his best performance at his Catalonian club and was even loaned out to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2019.
His appearance at the German club was also said to be inconsistent and increasingly raised questions regarding the fitness and the future of the player.
Barcelona are now looking for ways to sell Coutinho in order to save on players’ salary expenses for the 2020/2021 season. However, Barca realized that it will be challenging to find European clubs who want to pay Coutinho’s salary and transfer fees.
Munich themselves did not activate his purchase option, leaving the door open for other clubs to move. Barca believes that Coutinho has more chances to return to the Premiere League.
Arsenal and Newcastle were later linked with the former Liverpool midfielder. But both clubs are still considering their position next season if they want to spend large funds for a player.
