Italian Health Authority Expects Serie A to be Terminated

By db-admin

DBasia.news –  The continuation of the 2019/20 Serie A competition is still unclear whether it will be continued or stopped. At present, health authorities in Italy hope that the prestigious match in Italy would be terminated.

Italian football stakeholders are trying to find the best way to continue the competition. This must be done in order to avoid a financial crisis that has threatened participating clubs.

Initially there was hope to continue the competition this season. The reason is because the level of the spread of the corona virus in Italy has begun to decline.

Serie A clubs plan to resume training on May 4. If realized, then the competition will be continued three weeks later.

However, this desire has received a response from the Italian National Institute of Health (ISS). They consider that continuing competition in times like this is very risky.

Although the spread has decreased, ISS believes that the corona virus cannot be controlled yet. There is a chance that the number of positive cases will continue to increase.

“Football is a contact sport, so there is a risk of transmission,” the ISS Department of Communicable Disease Director, Giovanni Rezza, said as quoted by Football Italia.

“There are those who want players to continue to be monitored, by doing tests every day. That seems like a small change for me.”

Serie A operators have indeed prepared a number of strategies so that the competition can resume. One of them is holding a match without spectators.

But Rezza consideres that way is still unable to guarantee the safety of players. The reason is again because the corona virus can not be controlled.

“If I have to give a technical observation, it seems that is not what people want, but the Technical and Science Committee will agree. The rest will go back to political decisions,” he concluded.
