Italy’s clean sheet record has finally stopped, Gianluigi Donnarumma is grateful

DBasia.news – Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma admitted that he was grateful after his team’s clean sheet record was stopped in the top 16 match of Euro 2020 against Austria, Sunday (27/6/2021).
In this match, both teams played a goalless draw for 2×45 minutes. Italy was only able to break the deadlock in the 94th minute of extra time thanks to a goal scored by Federico Chiesa.
Matteo Pessina was able to increase Italy’s advantage before Sasa Kalajdzic reduced Austria’s lag. The 2-1 score also led Gli Azzurri to advance to the quarter-finals.
In the previous 11 matches, Italy’s goal also didn’t concede at all before Kalajdzic’s goal. However, Donnarumma considered that the goal would actually have a good impact for Italy in the future.
“We know it won’t be easy. We did well to keep things tight, kept pushing and scoring goals to break the deadlock and from there it was easier,” Donnarumma told RAI Sport.
“It’s true we conceded at the end, but in the end it helped us to move forward.” said the AC Milan goalkeeper.
In the last eight, Italy will meet the winner of the big match that brings together two other favorite champion teams, namely Belgium and Portugal.
Regardless of the potential strong opponent that Italy will face in the quarter-final match in Munich later, Donnarumma confirmed his team’s determination to continue the good performance so far.
“It doesn’t matter who we face, we have to keep playing our football and keep going.” he stated.
