Joao Felix’s First Season at Atletico Madrid Is Better Than Sergio Aguero

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Four injuries, inconsistency in play, plus postponement of the league because of the corona virus pandemic also affected Joao Felix’s performance in his first season with Atletico Madrid. Supporters very much hope for him.

Understandably not cheap when Atletico recruited Joao Felix. The Portuguese talent were recruited 126 million euros to fill the position left by Antoine Griezmann who moved to Barcelona. No wonder if supporters have big expectations for the 20-year-old player.

Nevertheless Joao Felix’s future is still long way to go and he can still develop. His statistical record this season with Atletico is also better than Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero in his debut season with Atletico (2006/07).

The quality of Aguero as Europe’s top striker cannot be doubted in Man City at the moment. But early in his career in Europe Aguero built it from Atletico.

In his debut season with Atletico, he scored six goals and played 38 matches in LaLiga – Atletico did not play in European competition at that time. Meanwhile according to Marca Joao Felix has scored six goals in LaLiga.

It is worth remembering that Joao Felix did it in 26 games and 12 games less than Aguero. Although the current squad is different from before, the record shows there is hope for Joao Felix to become a long-term project and a mainstay of the team.

“He (Felix) is looking for continuity in the team again, the continuity that we all need and expect from him,” said Diego Simeone, Atletico’s coach.

“Hopefully he can reach the place he hopes because in the case of young players, this is a consequence before reaching that place. If he can go that far then he can do it (reach a high level of play).”

Joao Felix’s international experience is also quite good. He already has five caps with the Portuguese national team made by Fernando Santos and learns from the world superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo.
