Jurgen Klopp Analysis of Champions League Group D Competition
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has commented on the draw for the Champions League group which includes Atalanta, Ajax Amsterdam and Midtjylland in group D.
Competition in group D is relatively normal. Liverpool are the seeds to qualify as top of the standings followed by second place contested by Ajax and Atalanta, while Midtjylland is predicted to be the dark horse team in this group.
Klopp predicts intense matches because Ajax, Atalanta, Midtjylland are teams that run a lot, apply pressure, and can make it difficult for their opponents. One other thing Klopp is grateful for is his team’s short distance.
“To be honest I don’t think too much about traveling, but yes, Italy, the Netherlands and Denmark may not be the farthest (in terms of traveling distance),” said Jurgen Klopp as quoted by Goal.
“It’s okay, but we don’t think about the distance we have drawn in the Champions League, we think about the games we play and I think it’s a very strong group.”
Erik ten Hag’s Ajax always exhibits offensive football even though his talent has been left behind in several seasons, while Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta is a team that the public talks about with the way they play, offensively, and often score lots of goals.
“Everyone knows how good Ajax were two years ago and they will always build the right new squad and the right team. Midtjylland is for different reasons … one of the most interesting teams because they have a pretty specific way of (playing),” added Klopp.
“This is some information I had without knowing that we were going to face them, and Atalanta is definitely a very interesting project since a few years. They are also playing pretty good things, so it seems to me that this is the right group of football.”
“All the teams try to play real football, all the teams run a lot, so the game will be intense and we only fly an hour and a half or two, not four and a half or five, yes that’s good but we will play in Moscow or Greece too, no doubt,” concluded Klopp.
The first group matches of the 2020-2021 Champions League will be held on 20 or 21 October 2020.
