Jurgen Klopp: James Milner is Liverpool’s number one Penalty Executor
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp confirmed that James Milner was the club’s number one penalty taker, with Mohamed Salah as a cover.
Milner has scored 19 goals from the spot for the Reds and has only failed to perfect penalties on two occasions.
The last time the veteran midfielder scored a penalty was on Boxing Day last year when the Reds defeated Leicester City 4-0.
The question of who the club’s main penalty taker is is actually not Klopp’s main focus, but the tactician insists Milner is the number one choice.
“James Milner was our first penalty taker, but when he is not playing then it’s Mo. When Millie is on the pitch he is the one who decides,” said Klopp.
“Most of the time Millie is not on the pitch, but I still remember when Millie played and he gave it to Mo.”
“For me the most important thing is to see the ball enter the net, whoever is the kicker.”
“Millie gave us impressive penalty stats, as well as Mo. So for me it doesn’t matter and that’s the decision.”
Liverpool and Everton are the two teams that are allowed to have a limited number of fans in the stadium. Klopp is certainly grateful for the support of the fans at Anfield but he doesn’t think it’s a big advantage.
“This has nothing to do with us as a club. The decision is not in our hands,” he said.
“But that describes good things about Liverpool. Four or five weeks ago there was a massive test. I’m not a specialist, so I don’t know how much influence it has.”
“What I want to say is I hope everyone can enjoy the match. I don’t see this as an advantage but it is more fun.”
