Juventus in the Era of Massimiliano Allegri
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Fabio Capello admitted that he was surprised to see how Juventus played under coach Massimiliano Allegri, especially in their latest match in Serie A last weekend.
The Bianconeri in the 2022/23 season have a relatively luxurious and star-studded squad, but failed to show an attractive game and were overwhelmed by the host, Fiorentina to close the match with a 1-1 draw on Saturday (3/9).
Sadly, Juve were bombarded by Fiorentina and were unable to fire a single shot on target in the second half. They even almost lost if Mattia Perin was unable to thwart the execution of Luka Jovic’s penalty.
Capello, 76, who won two Scudettos with Juventus before being sacked over the Calciopoli scandal, says Allegri cannot continue to impose his pragmatic style of play.
“Juventus can’t play like this,” he told Sky Sport Italia.
“Allegri has to do more, he has to stop telling jokes and work to bring something more from his team to win again. Juventus have had ups and downs and it’s difficult to understand what they want to do.”
Allegri chose to substitute Dusan Vlahovic in the draw against Fiorentina, with the hope that the striker can be relied on to be fit when they travel to Paris Saint-Germain in the first match of the Champions League group stage on Wednesday (7/9).
However, due to Allegri’s pessimistic comments before the match against PSG and saying that Juve’s toughest competitors to qualify for the knockout stages are Benfica, Capello felt that the decision to leave the Serbian striker did not make sense.
“If that’s the case, why isn’t Vlahovic played against Fiorentina?” Capello asked. “I don’t understand.”
However, Capello also admits that the current Juventus squad is incomplete as Allegri is still missing several key players such as Paul Pogba and Federico Chiesa who are currently sidelined through injury.
“Juventus remain two points behind the leaders, imagine where they would be if they played well. They are still building a team and missing important players who made the difference,” he added.
