Kenny Cunningham Criticized David Luiz’s performance against Liverpool

DBasia.news –  Arsenal were only able to reply to goals from Lucas Torreira after trailing 0-3 via two goals by Mohamed Salah (one penalty) and Joel Matip. Two goals created by Mo Salah happened because of David Luiz’s mistake.

The Brazilian defender pulled the shirt of Mo Salah to bear a penalty. Then for his second goal, Mo Salah easily passed Luiz and the player reasoned a yellow card affected his game.

Cunningham, a former defender of the Republic of Ireland national team, rated Luiz’s way of defending badly. The 32-year-old player does not seem to know how to defend in general.

“I am very surprised Emery did it (transfer) and bought it (Luiz). In terms of Arsenal’s need for a central defender position, they need someone who knows how to defend in general,” said Cunningham on the Express.

“They need someone who enjoys the way to defend and David Luiz has never convinced me of someone who enjoys the way to defend. His position on the third goal (Liverpool), the goal Salah, almost not seen (on the defenders generally).”

“You very rarely see a way to defend like that, the way Salah left him 10 meters behind him and ran towards the 17-meter area. The only way you beat a defender in such a situation is to deceive him by moving your shoulders to the right and then turning left.”

According to Cunningham, David Luiz is typically a lazy defender and Arsenal should make the final option to strengthen the defense sector.

“He (Mo Salah) just leaned to the left and moved quickly. Being 10 meters behind after such a simple ability is hard to believe. It’s a lazy and typical way of David Luiz’s defending: everything or nothing at all,” added Cunningham

“For me, he (the option) is Arsenal’s last recruit who can be recruited ahead of the season when they need to improve in the midfield defense.”
