Kieran Tierney: Arsenal Deserves to be in the Champions League
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Arsenal full-back, Kieran Tierney said that the club deserved to be in the top four of the English Premier League and Champions League following the victory over Liverpool in the Community Shield event.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the winning goal in the penalty spot when the Gunners, FA Cup champions, defeated Liverpool 5-4 in a high-fist battle at Wembley, Saturday (29/8).
In a normal match, Takumi Minamino’s first goal for the Reds thwarted Arsenal’s lead through Aubameyang’s action in the 12th minute.
Arsenal only finished eighth in the 2019/20 Premier League season so they will appear in the FA Cup competition for the fourth consecutive year, but Tierney said the confidence is in the Emirates Stadium.
“Passion is one of the main things in the locker room. Faith and passion, we have that, and we are building it,” Tierney said after the match.
“We just want to go on and keep building this way.”
“The thoughts come from the manager and staff. It continues what we did last season and develops it. When we came back last week, we just continued. We were never too long, so last season didn’t feel too long.”
“Coming into a match like this, we are starting to believe more and more and I think it’s all about faith and passion. Mikel [Arteta] installed that into us from day one, the defense and transition organization. That’s what we do in every training, we watch the videos about it. It’s not because of luck and it’s not by chance. It’s because of hard work. “
“The fans and the club deserve to be in the Champions League. They deserve to be in the top four and we want to do the best we can and fight in every game we face this year.”
Arsenal will open the 2002/21 Premier League season against Fulham, who have recently been promoted, on September 11. Aubameyang will reportedly sign a new contract with Arsenal.
“We are close,” Arteta told BT Sport regarding the negotiations with Aubameyang following Arsenal’s Community Shield victory.
“Big games, big moments, big players. He responds well to that kind of pressure. He was outstanding in the FA Cup final and the same today.”
