Klopp sympathizes with Chelsea while being proud of Liverpool’s owner

DBasia.news – Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp sympathizes with Chelsea after being directly affected by the Russia-Ukraine conflict. But he took advantage of this moment to make the owners of the Reds proud.

Chelsea was banned from carrying out commercial activities after the British government froze all the assets of the owner, Roman Abramovich. This relates to the billionaire’s involvement in the Russian military invasion of Ukraine.

As a result of this sanction, the club’s sales process is also hampered. Now Chelsea are on the verge of collapsing.

Klopp is aware of difficulties faced by Chelsea. But he did not want to defend Abramovich.

“Did anyone really care when Roman Abramovich came to Chelsea? Did anyone really care when Newcastle was taken over?” Klopp said at a press conference ahead of Liverpool’s match against Brighton.

“It’s pretty clear where their money is coming from, but it’s accepted anyway. It’s society’s fault, so we accept it.”

“Now we can’t take it anymore and we punish them (Chelsea). It’s not Chelsea’s fault, not everything.”

Controversy has accompanied Abramovich’s arrival to Chelsea. One of the most highlighted is of course his closeness to a number of Russian political figures.

This eventually backfired after the Russian government invaded Ukraine. Abramovich is accused of co-financing this military operation because of his close relationship with Vladimir Putin.

Klopp is grateful that the Liverpool owner doesn’t have Abramovich’s background. Fenway Sports Group is purely managing Red Merseyside for business purposes.

“I don’t know what the (club owner) background check is like. But I can tell you that from the first day I came here I was happy with our owners.”

“Ultimately, the owners are there to lead the club, providing financial resources when they want to make a profit.”

“Now we are starting to clearly think about where their money is coming from. I think it’s a good idea to be honest and think about it a bit more.”
