Koeman claims his team deserves a penalty

DBasia.news – The Copa del Rey semi-final match between Sevilla vs Barcelona which ended with a score of 2-0 has left a controversy. Barcelona coach, Ronald Koeman claimed his team deserved a penalty for violating Jordi Alba in the 73rd minute.

Barcelona came home with their heads down after losing 2-0. Two of Sevilla’s goals were scored by Jules Kounde (25 ‘) and Ivan Rakitic (85’).

Ronald Koeman considered Barcelona should not have lost by a score of 2-0. Because Barca should have received a penalty after Jordi Alba was brought down in the 70th minute. However, referee, Antonio Mateu Lahoz considered the violation occured outside the penalty box.

“We have to analyze the match. There are many duels before the second leg. There is hope even though it is challenging. This team can do anything at home,” explained Koeman as reported by Marca.

“Everyone told me if it was a penalty. They committed a foul, but it was a clever foul,” said Koeman.

“We have a chance. There is VAR, but I think it should have been a penalty.”

Koeman admitted that Sevilla gave fierce resistance to Barcelona. Sevilla appeared disciplined.

“They defended well. They are also a great team with a great squad. We are against a team that relies on physical strength,” added Koeman.

The second leg will only take place on February 27. Prior to that, Barca faced three LaLiga matches and one Champions League duel against Paris Saint-Germain.
