Lampard Upset That VAR Was Ignored in the MU vs Chelsea Match

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is very upset and frustrated with the use of the video of the assistant referee, aka VAR. His frustration is related to when his team didn’t get a penalty in the match against Manchester United at Old Trafford, Sunday (25/10).

The incident that Lampard refers to is the incident when his team got a free kick situation and United captain Harry Maguire used both hands to keep out Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta in the penalty box.

“I think it clearly should have been a penalty,” Lampard said on Chelsea’s official website.

“I could not see it directly from where I was. I thought it was a difficult decision to only be taken by the referee on the pitch. That is why VAR was present, but VAR immediately ignored the incident,” he said.

According to Lampard, neither referee Martin Atkinson nor the VAR officer should have rushed into a decision. At least VAR could advise Atkinson to preview the reruns on the available fieldside monitors.

“If he sees it, it is certain that the referee will give a penalty, so the decision was really confusing for me,” he said.

“It is quite frustrating, because the prevailing rules seem to be moving in a better direction. Referees have been watching the VAR screen more directly at the start of this season, because those on duty in the field should have the biggest responsibility, that’s why there is a monitor,” he said.

The result of the match against United made Chelsea temporarily move up to sixth in the standings with a collection of nine points.
