Language is not an Issue for Unai Emery
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Unai Emery is not fluent in English. Even so, that did not prevent him from talking to Arsenal players.
Unai Emery entered to fill in the place left by Arsene Wenger at the start of the 2018-2019 season. Previously, he coached Paris Saint-Germain for two years.
At that time, Emery still was still unable to speak English well. Not surprisingly, the 47-year manager often asks for help from his assistant, Freddie Ljungberg.
“I don’t think so,” Unai Emery explained when asked if communication was a problem. “I have good communication with the players. Especially individually with Bukayo Saka. Sometimes, I use Feddie to have conversations individually with players.”
“However, I also spoke alone with Saka in the office while preparing several videos. I have videos with English, Spanish, French and German players,” he continued.
During his career as a manager, Unai Emery had never handled an English club. Previously, he was captain of CSKA Moscow, Sevilla, Valencia, Almeria and Lorca Deportiva.
“Maybe, my English skills from a scale of one to ten is a six. I think the players can understand me. If not, I can ask for help.”
“Last year, on the first day of work, I spoke to them very badly, worse than today. Now, I have spoken in English. I think it is better now,” Emery said.
Unai Emery will lead Arsenal when they travel to Manchester United’s headquarters in the 2019-2020 Premier League, at Old Trafford Stadium on Monday (30/9) local time. The Gunners have never beaten Man United at Old Trafford in the last 12 matches.
