Lazio vs AS Roma, the Biancoceleste Won 3-0

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Lazio reaped the perfect result after a 3-0 win over AS Roma at the Derby della Capitale at the Olimpico in Serie A’s 18th giornata, Saturday (16/1/2021). Luis Alberto became a star in this match after scoring two goals plus another goal from Ciro Immobile.

Simone Inzaghi’s hosts lost possession of the ball 39 percent to 61 percent of Paulo Fonseca’s Roma, but it fits Lazio’s play plan which is very effective in their game.

Lazio recorded eight attempted kicks and all of them were on target, while Roma had only one shot on target from six attempts. The three goals from Lazio’s shots came from Ciro Immobile (14′) and two goals from Luis Alberto (23′, 67′).

Paulo Fonseca was disappointed with the result because he thought Rome gave Lazio two goals with a mistake they did.

“I think in the early minutes we had the right approach, but against a team like Lazio, it’s difficult to recover if you give them two goals,” Fonseca told Sky Sport Italia.

“Lazio felt comfortable after that and we never had the ability to break their defensive line. They closed well and it was difficult to get back into it.”

“Lazio closed really well in defense, we passed the ball without finding a way in. Lazio also deserve credit for that, because they blocked all space. It was our intention to attack, but we couldn’t find space.”

“We know Lazio are very strong on the counter-attack, so we have to leave someone back and prepare for the moment when we lose the ball,” added Fonseca.

The victory is important for Lazio in their quest to enter the top four of Serie A. Currently the Capital City Eagle is in seventh place in the standings with 31 points, two points adrift of Juventus, who have played two games less.

In addition, Lazio according to Opta also equaled the record of the biggest wins in Serie A against city rivals that were last achieved in 2006 and 2019.

AS Roma’s failure to win the match put them in third place with 34 points. The distance from AC Milan could go away to nine points if Il Rossoneri win the match against Cagliari, Tuesday (19/01).
