League Cup Quarter-Final Draw Results: Arsenal Meets Manchester City, Manchester United is Challenged by Everton
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Mikel Arteta led Arsenal to defeat Liverpool in the top 16 of the League Cup and now he will challenge his former mentor, Pep Guardiola in the quarter-finals.
This was confirmed by the draw for the League Cup quarter-finals which brought Arsenal against Manchester City as one of the course on Friday (2/10) am, WIB.
Despite being a student, Arteta is not necessarily in an inferior position in the meeting against Guardiola since he handled Arsenal on December 20, 2019.
Guardiola won the first meeting convincingly 3-0 for Manchester City in Matchday 29, but Arteta’s Arsenal managed to deliver the Citizens’ first ever domestic cup defeat since 2018. Arsenal defeated Manchester 2-0 in the FA Cup semi-finals.
More than that, Guardiola seemed to be a stepping stone for Arteta’s success in winning the trophy with Arsenal in his seven-month tenor, of course three months without a match as football has been disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Of course, the third meeting between Arteta and Guardiola is worth waiting for when it takes place on mid December 21, 2020.
What’s more, Arteta will first lead Arsenal to visit the Etihad to challenge Manchester City in a series of Premier League third week matches on October 17.
Another quarter-final draw brings Everton and Manchester United together. When it takes place, Carlo Ancelotti’s new weapons at Everton, namely James Rodriguez, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure, have confirmed their position as pillars of the Toffees or otherwise their game can be suppressed by English clubs.
Meanwhile, Manchester United, who are still staggering at the start of the season, should have found a more steady appearance trend in December.
Surprise in the League Cup is also possible, given the two second caste teams, Stoke City and Brentford did not meet each other in the quarter-finals.
Stoke will take on Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur, while Brentford takes on Newcastle United, who in the top 16 had almost fallen to becoming a victim to fourth-tier, Newport County.
Following are the results of the draw for the Premier League Cup quarter-finals:
Stoke City vs Tottenham Hotspur
Brentford vs Newcastle United
Arsenal vs Manchester City
Everton vs Manchester United
