DBasia.news –  West German goalkeeper, Hans Tilkowski died at the age of 84 years. Hans, who played for West Germany in the 1966 World Cup final, was known to have been ill for a long time.

Tilkowski became a byword after the 1966 World Cup final when Germany lost to England 2-4. At that time, Tilkowski believed that Geoff Hurst’s strike which hit the post and bounced down did not cross the goal line. Tilkowski also received the most questions about the controversial goal.

Tilkowski underwent his debut in defense of West Germany at the 1966 World Cup. The player born in Dortmund-Husen on July 12, 1935, had previously only been a reserve player at the 1962 World Cup.

During strengthening West Germany, Tilkowski never tasted the world title. At club level, while defending Borussia Dortmund from 1963 to 1967, Tilkowski won the DFB Pokal and Cup Winners Cup. Tilkowski also won the German Footballer of the Year award in 1965.
