Leicester City sold Wesley Fofana to Chelsea

DBasia.news – Manchester United once broke the record for the transfer of the world’s most expensive defender, Harry Maguire from Leicester City, for 80 million pounds on August 5, 2019. Three years later, a similar transfer could happen again.
This time not to Man United but to a rival team, Chelsea. The Blues are still hunting for defenders after signing Kalidou Koulibaly, plus losing Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger. Leicester defender Wesley Fofana is a priority.
“There has been an offer made to the club (for Fofana), but it is not close to the value our club owners want. We didn’t even think about it (selling Fofana),” said Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers.
Chelsea had originally made an offer of more than 70 million pounds last week, but it was rejected by Leicester who labeled it not for sale. Chelsea did not give up and could offer up to 80 million pounds, Maguire’s price.
“Chelsea are preparing a new proposal for Wesley Fofana. Negotiations will continue with Leicester, they insisted on labeling him not for sale but Chelsea will now push for the transfer again, after an offer of over 70 million pounds was rejected last week. Fofana wants to move, Chelsea want to try again, “explained transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The French defender is considered one of the brightest prospects considering he is only 21 years old. Even last season, when an injury ruled him out of 41 games, Fofana still returned to playing in a fit state.
The 2020-2021 season became one of Fofana’s best seasons after coming from AS Saint-Etienne. From the average statistics provided by FBREF, Fofana made 2.51 tackles, 2.03 interceptions (cutting the ball in the opponent’s path), and made no mistakes per 90 minutes. No wonder Chelsea are ready to invest in him.
