Leicester City successfully defeated Chelsea by taking advantage of the opponent’s weak point

DBasia.news – Leicester City appeared stunning when they defeated Chelsea 2-0 in the 2020-2021 Premier League at the King Power Stadium, Wednesday (20/1) WIB. The Foxes seemed able to take advantage of their opponent’s weak points well.
Chelsea was favored to become champions this season. This cannot be separated from the maneuvers of the Blues in the transfer market which brought in a number of expensive star players on the front lines.
Such predictions will be proven when Chelsea appear solid at the start of the season. However, this condition did not last long.
Chelsea’s performance began to decline since mid-December. The manager, Frank Lampard, seemed to still be having trouble finding a solution to this problem.
Leicester made the most of these conditions. Brendan Rodgers’ team was able to keep Chelsea’s game from developing.
“This is a great performance. Chelsea is a talented team with individual quality. But as a team, we were extraordinary,” Brendan Rodgers told Sky Sports after the match.
From this statement, Rodgers seemed to be insinuating that Chelsea relied too much on the quality of their individual players. While they are not a solid team.
This is true, given the decline in Chelsea’s performance, it cannot be separated from the decline in the appearance of the star players. Timo Werner is starting to become barren, Hakim Ziyech is often injured, and Kai Havertz who is increasingly invisible is an example.
Another Chelsea weakness was also leaked by Leicester’s winning star, James Maddison. According to him, Thiago Silva and his team mates often lost focus when anticipating set-piece situations.
This was used by Leicester to break the deadlock when the game was six minutes in through the action of Wilfred Ndidi. Being conceded so quickly will certainly destroy the mentality of the Chelsea players.
“We worked for it (scored goals from set pieces). We attacked Chelsea with short corners and made something,” said Maddison.
“We (saw) sometimes they lose focus on set pieces and we know that is something we can take advantage of.”
The weakness in anticipating set pieces has been Chelsea’s problem since last season. But they have been able to fix it and now they have relapsed again.
