Lewandowski closes 2021 with a new record
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Robert Lewandowski closed his career in 2021 neatly. He broke a rare record belonging to the legend of Bayern Munich, Gerd Muller.
Lewandowski contributed one goal when Munich hosted Wolfsburg in the 2021-2022 Bundesliga at the Allianz Arena, Saturday (18/12). Die Roten closed the match with a landslide victory of 4-0.
The goal against Wolfsburg is the 19th scored by Lewandowski in the 2021-2022 Bundesliga. Remarkably, he collected it from only 17 matches.
Overall, Lewandowski scored 30 goals in 25 appearances in all competitions during the first half of the season. A very impressive statistic of course.
Another special score was recorded by Lewandowski thanks to a goal against Wolfsburg. He is now officially the Bundesliga’s all-time top scorer in a calendar year.
During 2021, Lewandowski scored a total of 43 goals in the Bundesliga. He is one goal ahead of Gerd Muller who has held this record since 1972.
This confirms that Lewandowski is the best striker that Munich and the Bundesliga have ever had. His sharpness has also been consistently demonstrated for nearly a decade.
Equalling with Ronaldo
The Polish striker’s score was even more perfect as he was able to equal the number of goals Cristiano Ronaldo also scored in a calendar year in 2013. Throughout this year, Lewandowski was able to score 69 goals both at club and national team level.
But Lewandowski and Ronaldo are not the all-time top scorers in a calendar year. Both are still under Lionel Messi.
In 2012, Messi was able to score 91 goals for Barcelona and the Argentina national team. That amount is 22 times more than Lewandowski and Ronaldo.
