DBasia.news – Manchester City’s offer to recruit the Argentinian megastar, Lionel Messi, from Barcelona in 2016 wasn’t just a rumor.
Two years ago, when Man City appointed Pep Guardiola as the manager replacing Manuel Pellegrini. Pep was rumored interested to recruit Messi.
Khaidoon Al Mubarak, Man City chairman, revealed that it’s true that Messi was approached by his club. But, the 31-year-old player refused to move despite the triple salary compared to Barcelona.
“We asked Guardiola to talk to (Messi). We offered to triple the salary he has at Barcelona, but he did not accept it,” Al Mubarak told Goal.
We should appreciate Messi’s loyalty. The high salary couldn’t tease the 5 Ballon d’Or winner who has been really successful in Barcelona in achieving the individual and collective awards.
