Liverpool Activate Purchase Clause for Ibrahima Konate
By db-admin
DBasia.news – In order to compete in the next season, Liverpool plans to add strength to their team by recruiting players. The closest player who is predicted to dock at Anfield soon is RB Leipzig defender, Ibrahima Konate.
The news was confirmed by Fabrizio Romano as a European football transfer expert. Romano has said that Konate’s transfer to Liverpool has occurred since May 25 and now Liverpool are redeeming Konate’s purchase clause.
“Ibrahima Konate’s clause has been activated and he completed a medical a few days ago: he is a Liverpool player, no doubt. It will be official soon,” said Romano.
In addition to activating the purchase clause Konate Liverpool are also trying to extend the contract of Brazilian midfielder Fabinho. “Liverpool are now focused on negotiations for Fabinho’s new contract. He is open to staying and agrees with him.”
Konate’s buyout clause reached £36 million and at the age of 22 Liverpool is believed to have awarded him a five-year contract. Konate could be Liverpool’s investment to strengthen the back line.
This season Konate has made 21 appearances for Leipzig including starting eight times in the Bundesliga. Konate’s arrival will further enliven the competition at the heart of Liverpool’s defense.
It’s no secret that Liverpool still have Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Nathaniel Phillips, Rhys Williams, Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak on loan from Schalke at center-back. That choice will be a headache for Jurgen Klopp.
Konate has rarely played this season because he was hit by an ankle injury that kept him out for two months. Konate’s departure from Leipzig follows the departure of Dayot Upamecano who is anchored to rival team Bayern Munich.
