Liverpool Captain Talks about the Premier League Regarding Player Safety
By db-admin
DBasia.news – The Premier League’s decision to continue the 2021-2022 season in the midst of the outbreak of the corona virus angered Jordan Henderson. The Liverpool captain feels the player’s safety has been neglected.
The Premier League operator has indeed made the decision to continue the competition. Even though a number of matches have been postponed due to the many positive cases experienced by players from various clubs.
However, the decision was made on the recommendation of representatives of the 20 participating clubs. This is what makes Henderson disappointed.
“Football for us is everything and we want to be able to perform at the highest level every time we set foot on the pitch. And unfortunately in the current period it’s difficult to do that,” Henderson told the BBC.
“I don’t think people can appreciate how intense this issue is until you actually see it in person. I’m afraid no one really takes player safety seriously.”
Liverpool itself was not spared from the corona virus attack. A number of key players such as Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara had to undergo isolation after testing positive.
All three were forced to miss Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend. These results indirectly reduce the chances of the Reds to win the title.
But Henderson did not really care about this fact. He considered that there are things that are more prioritized during the current pandemic.
We’re going to try to have a behind-the-scenes conversation and try to have some sort of influence going forward. At the moment I don’t feel the players are getting the respect they deserve.”
“We don’t yet have someone who can speak as an independent representative and have the power to say actually this is not right for the safety of the players.”
