DBasia.news – Former coach of the Argentine national team, Alfio Basile, gave scathing criticism to Liverpool. He highlighted the transfer activity of the Reds who brought in Luis Diaz in the middle of this season.

Liverpool maneuvered ahead of the closing of the 2022 winter transfer market. The Reds made an offer to Porto to sign Luis Diaz.

After negotiations, Liverpool finally reached an agreement. The Colombian national team player is reportedly valued at around £50 million.

Diaz’s presence in the Liverpool squad is expected to add depth to the front lines and create healthy competition as Liverpool are considered to be very dependent on Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

However, Alfio Basile saw it from a different angle. He believes Liverpool does not need Diaz. Moreover, Diaz’s performance with the Colombian national team against Peru and Argentina has also not been impressive.

“Diaz, was signed by Liverpool, I didn’t see him doing anything against Peru and Argentina,” said Alfio Basile as reported by Radio Cooperativa.

“Therefore, why sign Diaz?” continued the coach.

Luis Diaz had just underwent a career in European football in the 2019-2020 season. He joined from Junior FC to Porto. During his time at Porto, the 25-year-old player recorded 41 goals and 19 assists in 125 games
