DBasia.news – Liverpool officially brought in a winger from Portugal, Diogo Jota (23 years old), from Wolverhampton, Saturday (19/9). Jota was redeemed by Liverpool for 45 million pounds. He agreed to a contract with the Reds until June 2025.
Fluent in playing in various positions on the front lines, Jota is considered to be the ideal recruit to provide protection for the Liverpool trio, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
Jota has scored 44 goals and 19 assists in 131 appearances for Wolves in all competitions since signing from Atletico Madrid in the 2017/18 season.
Manager, Jurgen Klopp was impressed by the player’s form, determination and flexibility when Liverpool faced Wolves on several occasions.
The recruitment of Jota is known to be Liverpool’s second option. Previously, the Red Merseyside had targeted Watford winger, Ismaila Sarr (22 years).
Liverpool were interested in the Senegalese, who scored twice to give him their first Premier League defeat last season. However, Anfield was reluctant to comply with Watford’s transfer request of 40 million pounds.
Jota is recorded as Liverpool’s third new player in the summer transfer market. The player with four caps in the Portugal national team was brought in after the Greek left-back, Kostas Tsimikas (24 years old), from Olympiakos and Spanish midfielder, Thiago Alcantara (29 years), from Bayern Munich.
