Lorenzo Pellegrini: Jose Mourinho Makes Rome Feel Special
By db-admin
DBasia.news – AS Roma is enjoying a honeymoon in the era of Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho. Il Giallorossi are unbeaten in Serie A and that momentum continues in the newly held UEFA Europa Conference League this season.
Most recently, in the first match of group C, Roma won 5-1 over CSKA Sofia at the Stadio Olimpico. Two goals were scored by Lorenzo Pellegrini, while the remaining goals were scored by Stephan El Shaarawy, Gianluca Mancini and Tammy Abraham.
Predicted victory. But one thing that is certain from that victory is Mourinho’s commitment and seriousness to win the Conference League. “I want to win the first Conference League,” said Mourinho.
It’s not a new thing if Mourinho is targeting trophies, because he always has the image of success in winning trophies at the clubs he has coached from Porto, Chelsea (two terms), Inter Milan, Real Madrid, to Manchester United (not at Tottenham Hotspur).
Obtaining the trophy gave rise to a reputation that Mourinho was a coach who was ‘hired’ to give trophies, no matter how short his career was at one club. But in Rome Mourinho showed a different ‘face’.
“It’s a feeling that’s been there since Mourinho arrived that I’ve never felt before at this club. We have to continue like this and keep improving if we want to win something,” said Lorenzo Pellegrini.
“You can feel something special around the place and, personally, I’ve never felt that before in Rome.”
Pellegrini has been one of Mourinho’s mainstays at Roma since he started coaching the club. To the extent that Mourinho said if there were three Pellegrini then I would play them.
But Mourinho is not just relying on Pellegrini. Tammy Abraham who came from Chelsea also rose under his direction, as did Henrikh Mkhitaryan who had problems with him at Man United.
Mourinho has played six games in all competitions for Roma and he still maintains a 100 per cent record, while in Serie A Roma have swept three games with a win (scoring nine goals and conceding two).
The dream of a trophy is already in the minds of fans, but Mourinho doesn’t want to think about it rashly because the season is still long.
“Five wins is not 50 and three wins in Serie A is not 30 wins. The fans are happy, of course, but they also have to take perspective and keep a cool head (think calmly),” said Mourinho.
Let time tell what the 2021-2022 season will be for Roma in Mourinho’s debut season. So far, his record in the first six games with Roma is going well.
Here are Mourinho’s first six games at other clubs:
Benfica: two wins, three draws, one loss
Leiria: three wins, three draws
Porto: four wins, two defeats
Chelsea (period one): five wins, one draw
Inter: five wins, one draw
Real Madrid: four wins, two draws
Chelsea (period two): two wins, one draw, three defeats
Man United: four wins, two defeats
Tottenham: four draws, two defeats
