Losing to Guardiola, Ancelotti is not disappointed
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Carlo Ancelotti was not too disappointed despite failing to bring Everton to the 2020-2021 FA Cup semifinals. He felt the Toffees were beaten by the best team in the world today, Manchester City.
In a match that took place at Goodison Park, Sunday (21/3) WIB, Everton were beaten 0-2 from Manchester City. Even though Gylfi Sigurdsson and team mates had fought it out.
Manchester City did dominate ball possession by 75%. However, Pep Guardiola’s team had a hard time dismantling Everton’s defense.
Two goals from Manchester City were only created at the end of the match. This proves that Ancelotti’s strategy is quite effective.
“We did the best we could. We defended well and for at least 80 minutes, we controlled the game,” Ancelotti told BT Sport.
“I’m satisfied because we were beaten by the best team in the world. Of course, they are comfortable with the ball but we defended well and we didn’t provide any space.”
Ancelotti did not deny that the depth of the squad differentiates Everton and Manchester City. Guardiola has more weapons from the bench than he does.
Manchester City’s appearance was getting better in the second half. Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez provided another variety of attacks that made it difficult for Everton.
In contrast, Ancelotti only made one substitution. He entered Alex Iwobi when Everton were one goal behind.
“We played the game we wanted to play. But they have the best reserve lineup in the world,” he added.
“It was a good experience for us and no regrets.”
Losing head to head
This defeat has made Guardiola improve his record of meetings with Ancelotti. The Spanish tactician took the lead with a score of 3-2.
Interestingly, Ancelotti’s three defeats to Guardiola were obtained when dealing with Everton. Even though he was able to win his first two meetings as Real Madrid boss.
